International Workshop on Urbanization, Land Use, Land Degradation and Environment

We are pleased to announce that the “ule2009 / International Workshop on Urbanisation, Land Use, Land Degradation and Environment is going to be held in 28th Sept - 01st Oct 2009 in Denizli, Turkey. This international workshop is jointly organized by the Centre for Science & Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre), the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and Pamukkale University to bring together the expert scientists, researchers, academicians and policy makers who are engaged in the work on urbanisation, land degradation, land use, and environment.

 

The event is structured into two main sections being “Workshop-I: Urbanisation, Land Use, Land Degradation” and “Workshop-II: Environment” to provide an international platform for exchanging information on several aspects of the issue, enabling for possible cross-country joint works among NAM S&T Centre members, and promoting scientist-to-scientist interactions on various topics covered by the event. Submissions to the ule2009 will be evaluated by an international scientific committee and the accepted works will be collected in the Book of Abstracts and Proceedings. Moreover, a number of papers from “Workshop-II: Environment” will be selected to be peer-viewed for possible publication in a special issue of the journal Desalination.

 

ule2009 / International Workshop will start on 28th of September 2009 with the Opening Lectures and a warm welcome cocktail to be held at the facilities of Pamukkale University. The scientific programme will continue on the next two days (29-30 Sept. ‘09) at the workshop venue with Plenary Lectures to be given by a group of internationally distinguished experts and with several sessions of oral and poster presentations. The event will be closed by a gala dinner on 30th of September and a social programme on 01st of October including an inspiring trip to Hierapolis-Pamukkale –the outstanding archaeological and natural attraction site included in UNESCO’s “The World Heritage List”-, and to the lovely city of Buldan -famous for its traditional cotton and silk handwoven textiles-.

 

ule2009 will take place in the authentic town of Karahayit, located 5 km north of Pamukkale (Cotton Palace). The town is famous for its thermal spas and natural hot-springs with a special red colour. Pamukkale is a world-famous natural treasure with its unique and beautiful travertine formations. It is adjacent to the ancient city of Hierapolis and is also close to the other two important archaeological sites of the region; Laodikeia and Tripolis.
